📍 Quick Summary: Islamic Inheritance (Faraid) Case Study

Our calculator automatically determines distribution shares based on Hanafi Fiqh and Surah An-Nisa. For example, in the common scenario where "a father passes away, leaving behind 1 wife, 2 sons, and 1 daughter", the shares are distributed as follows:

HeirQuranic Share (Fraction)Calculated Ratio (Out of 40 Shares)
Wife1/8 (Due to presence of children)5 Shares (12.5%)
1st SonAsabah (Son gets twice the daughter's share)14 Shares (35%)
2nd SonAsabah (Son gets twice the daughter's share)14 Shares (35%)
DaughterAsabah (Shared proportionally with brothers)7 Shares (17.5%)

What is Islamic Inheritance (Faraid)?

Faraid (فرائض) is the Islamic law of inheritance, derived from the Quran (Surah An-Nisa, 4:11-12) and the Sunnah. It specifies fixed shares (fractions) of the estate that must go to each eligible heir. This calculator follows the Hanafi school of jurisprudence, which is the predominant school in Turkey and much of the Muslim world.

Key Islamic Inheritance Concepts

  • Fixed-share heirs (Ashab al-Furud): Heirs whose share is fixed in the Quran, such as the spouse, mother, and daughters.
  • Asabah (Residual heirs): Heirs who receive the remainder of the estate after fixed shares are distributed. Sons are the primary Asabah heirs.
  • Awliyya (Proportional reduction): Applied when fixed shares together exceed 100% of the estate — all shares are reduced proportionally.
  • Radd (Return): When no Asabah is present and fixed shares are less than 100%, the surplus is returned to the eligible heirs proportionally (excluding the spouse).
