A glazing agent made from the resinous secretions of the female lac bug found in forests of India and Thailand.
Vegan / Vegetarian?
Not Vegan, as it is derived from insect secretions.
Fatwa Rulings
Scholars differ on its ruling. Since it is a secretion and not the bug itself (similar to honey from bees), some consider it Halal. However, many conservative scholars classify it as Makruh or Doubtful (Mushbooh).
